Psalm 31 gives us an insight into David’s relationship with God. The psalm begins with a heartfelt request for God to deliver him in the midst of distress and danger. David acknowledges that his only refuge is in God alone. What makes this so compelling is that David doesn’t blame others for his distress, when, in actuality, his present danger is from others. Instead, David confesses his sin as the cause of his distress. He seeks the mercy of God and openly rejoices in God’s mercy when he receives it. What blessing is ours who place our hope in God.
