Book 1: Psalm 1-41 God’s presence beside us

Title: A Psalm of David.

I. A prayer of dependence (1-2)

A.  David cries out for God to hear him.
B.  David cries out for God to answer him.
C.  David cries out his petition to God.
D.  David cries out to God’s holiness.

II. A prayer of destruction (3-5)

A.  David pleads for God to spare him.
B.  David describes the wicked.
C.  David pleads for justice.
D.  David describes their injustice.

III. A prayer of deliverance (6-9)

A.  David praises God for hearing his prayer.
B.  David praises God for being his deliverer.
C.  David praises God for being his strength.
D.  David petitions God to shepherd His people. 

There are times when we watch injustices all around us that seem to go unanswered. It is easy to grow frustrated when God is patient in His justice. In Psalm 28, David calls out for God to hear him and answer his petition for God to judge the wicked. He rehearses their sin and the many ways they oppose God. It is with great hope and unwavering confidence that David believes that God will answer his prayer, deliver the righteous, and bring the guilty to justice.
