Psalm 47

Book 2: Psalm 42-72 God’s presence going before us

Title: To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.

I. A Psalm of national triumph (1-4)

A. The people of God sing praise to God.

B. God subdues all of His enemies.

C. God has chosen Israel as His own people.

II. A Psalm of universal triumph (5-9)

A. God ascends over all the earth.

B. All nations are called to praise the LORD.

C. God reigns over all the nations of the earth.

This Psalm is triumphant in its exuberant praise. There is no complaint or lament mentioned. There is no call for God to help or show His presence in their time of need. In fact, there is no mention of need or want. From beginning to end, this Psalm is simply a triumphant celebration exalting the power, majesty, and holiness of their God. We need songs like this to express our joy in knowing that our God reigns!
