Book 1: Psalm 1-41 God’s presence beside us
Title: To the chief musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David. (Muth-labben means “the death of the son,” and most likely refers to either the tune or a musical instrument.) A. Sing personal praise to God. (1-2) B. Depend on the judgments of God. (3-6) C. Hope in the justice of God. (7-10) A. Sing corporate praise to God. (11-14) B. Depend on the judgments of God. (15-17) C. Hope in the justice of God. (18-20) Psalm 9 is a call to worship God. In the first half of the Psalm, David declares his personal praise to God. Beginning in verse 11, he calls on all to sing praise to God. God is worthy of our praise and worship because we can depend on His righteous judgements and live securely in the hope of His justice. We can worship God because He is always right.
